University appoints Cityheart to design and submit planning application for new student halls
The University announced last year that it was seeking a contractor to design and lodge a planning application for much needed, new purpose-built student accommodation to be built within its Plas Coch campus in Wrexham, which will comprise 322 beds and associated ancillary facilities.
The proposed new accommodation block will help alleviate pressure off the private rental market in the city, as well as allow the University to grow and meet its long-term student recruitment targets.
The need for more student accommodation comes as the number of students attending the University grew from 9,055 for the 2022-2023 academic year to 9,690 for 2023-24 – with increased demand for student accommodation as a result.
Professor Joe Yates, Vice-Chancellor of Wrexham University, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Cityheart as we take the next step towards delivering more high quality, modern accommodation for our students.
“This project represents a key part of our growth ambitions and aligns closely with our 2030 vision and strategy, which is centred around continuing to enhance the student experience and supporting the continued development of our campus.
“Providing vibrant, sustainable living spaces is essential to attracting and supporting our growing student community, and we look forward to progressing these plans together.”
Paul Moran, Capital Projects Manager at Wrexham University, said: “Cityheart have a proven track record in delivering high quality student accommodation, which makes them the ideal partner for this important project.
“This development marks an important next step in our continued investment in our student experience. By creating modern, sustainable student accommodation, we’re not only meeting the needs of our expanding student community but also strengthening Wrexham’s position as a vibrant university city.”
