PARTNERS
As part of the scheme, we retained and repurposed two buildings of historic note to provide residents’ social spaces and amenities. Each of the schemes were required to meet BREEAM ‘Excellent’ for the New Build and ‘Very Good’ for the existing buildings. Other features delivered were a centralised CHP district heating plant, low energy lighting throughout, good levels of natural daylight and ventilation. All of these features have bridged a large gap in supporting the University’s five year Carbon reduction plan targets.
AWARDS
Cityheart’s role included sourcing funding, detailed design, construction and the long-term management/operation of the scheme. The University set a challenging programme, and key to delivering this was fast tracking the planning process in partnership with the University. This proved successful and full consent was granted in twelve weeks.
A significant reason for the productive delivery of the project was the team spirit of partnering between the University, developer and the contractor. At times, one would not have known who was working for who, such was the desire to deliver the project on time and to budget, a goal successfully achieved.
“When we had challenges such as the inability of the Utilities to connect electricity to the site during one critical point in the construction phase. When we all sat round the table to resolve the issue you wouldn’t have known who was the client, or indeed who was working for who, as everyone was so focused on resolving and overcoming the problem.”
